Faculty Development and Research Opportunities
Funding Opportunities Available Through KU CIBER
CIBER funds are available for KU faculty from any department who are presenting a paper on a topic related to international business. Funds are available for such presentations made in the U.S. or abroad. The amount of the award is normally $500. Subject to availability, funding may also be available for non-KU faculty, with preference given to institutions in the region. To apply: Email with the name, title, dates and location of the conference, the title of your presentation and when it was accepted, and a brief description of the relevance of your presentation to international business. Also include the approximate total cost of your attendance at the conference and amounts and sources of support, other than CIBER, for your attendance.
Available to KU Business faculty, the annual Redwood Faculty Fellowship in International Business provides support for overseas study and travel to undertake a sabbatical leave, research project, course development, or other international professional activity. Competition for the Redwood Fellowships is normally announced each spring: for further information please contact the CIBER office. CIBER funds for business and non-business faculty, including faculty from other institutions, are also available for innovative research projects relevant to international business. Research funding is awarded on a competitive basis, usually in the spring semester; please contact CIBER Director Melissa Birch about your planned research. Graduate student research proposals related to international business may be reviewed on a case by case basis -- contact Dr. Birch for further information.
CIBER support is available for business and non-business faculty who wish to attend conferences and programs that will help them increase their knowledge of international business. Support ranges from sponsoring faculty attendance at local and regional events, to helping cover costs of participation in faculty development programs in international business, held in the U.S. or abroad. KU CIBER promotes activities that incorporate a business dimension into the teaching of foreign language. CIBER supports attendance by foreign language faculty and advanced graduate students at conferences such as the annual CIBER Business Languages Conference (www.modlangs.gatech.edu/ciber/). In addition, Graduate Teaching Internships are available for language faculty who wish to work with a Ph.D. student in developing and delivering an applied (business) language class.
